"Joel Smith who, in 1826, built a foundry in Lancaster. He took John Arney as a partner in 1845. John traded Smith his farm in Liberty Township (just North East of Lancaster) for his half of the foundry. It states then; 'John Arney, who succeeded him (Smith) in business, came to Lancaster at an early day and was a well known and prominent citizen. In the early days, he built and operatated an oil mill five miles south of Lancaster.'"
